About working in Mozambique
Mozambique’s commercial centre of gravity is Maputo and neighbouring Matola in the south, linked to Johannesburg by the N4 and the Maputo corridor, with Beira, Nacala and the coal and energy region around Tete further north.
Maputo is about 560 km from Johannesburg, so planned jobs in the south can be done by road through the Lebombo–Ressano Garcia crossing. Beira, Tete and Nampula are normally reached by air.
Portuguese is the working language of business and government, and the metical is the local currency. We prepare scope notes and close-out documents in English, and a Portuguese version of this page is available. Visas and work permits are confirmed before any engineer travels.
