For colocation tenants

Data centre smart hands for colocation tenants.

You rent the rack. We look after what's in it. IITECH gives colocation tenants an independent, SLA-based field team in South African data centres, with 24/7 smart hands and callouts.

How it works

Independent hands for your rack.

Colocation operators run the building: power, cooling, security and the meet-me rooms. What happens inside your cage or rack is your responsibility. When a server needs a drive swap at 3am or a new switch needs racking, you need someone who can get there, work to your instructions and show you what they did.

IITECH works as the tenant's nominated contractor. You add our engineers to your access list under your account, and we follow the facility's induction, escort, permit and safety rules on every visit. We work on your equipment only, and we report to you.

Many tenants connect to Microsoft Azure's South Africa regions or the AWS Africa (Cape Town) Region from equipment in colocation. The cloud side is run by the cloud provider, but the routers, firewalls, servers and cross-connects in your rack still need hands. Our founder's hands-on AWS Outposts technician experience also helps where cloud hardware sits in a tenant's own space.

How it works

How tenant access and tickets work.

Authorised by you, compliant with the facility.

  1. Authorise

You add named IITECH engineers to your facility access list and tell us your ticket process.

  2. Ticket

You raise a ticket with the facility, cage or rack, device, task and priority under your SLA.

  3. Attend

We book in with the facility, complete the work and keep your engineer updated.

  4. Report

You receive a photo report with times, serials and notes, ready to attach to the ticket.

Response times and SLAs. Response and attendance targets are agreed per facility and priority in your SLA. They depend on each facility's own access and booking rules, so we confirm them with you before the first ticket rather than quote a generic figure.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

Something else you need to know? Ask an engineer directly.

Do you provide smart hands in Teraco data centres?

We can work on tenant equipment in Teraco facilities such as JB1 to JB5, CT1, CT2 and DB1 when the tenant authorises our access. We are independent and not affiliated with Teraco. The operator's own remote hands service is a separate option.

Why use an independent provider instead of the facility's own remote hands?

Some tenants want one field partner across several facilities and their own offices, engineers who follow their procedures and ticket format, or skills beyond basic remote hands, such as network troubleshooting or OEM parts swaps. Others use both.

How do you get access to our rack?

You, as the tenant, add our named engineers to your access list and approve each visit through the facility's process. We carry ID and follow every induction, escort and permit requirement.

Can you receive deliveries at the data centre for us?

Yes, where the facility allows it. We can meet the courier or collect from the loading bay, check the contents and rack the equipment.

Do you cover Cape Town and Durban facilities?

Yes, by arrangement. Our engineers are based in Johannesburg, so Cape Town and Durban work is scheduled, and urgent cover is agreed with you in advance.

What does a report look like?

Time in and out, the task, before-and-after photos, serial numbers, light levels or port states where relevant, and any observations about the rack.
